Faith Over Fear - What Is Going To Happen?

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I
will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world
gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Worrying when you know you shouldn’t. Even though you know that God has got this and He
never fails. Ever. But then again, what is going to happen? Who will win the election, and what
will things be like afterward? God has this in the palm of His hand and loves us. But what will life
be in whatever world results from the results?

We have to stay in the faith and remind ourselves that God is with us in the best of times,
especially when we are living in situations we never thought we would. The prophets Isaiah and
Jeremiah talked about the wrath of God when His people turn from Him, worshipping idols,
breaking His commandments and eliminating Him from every day life. It’s a cycle that is
demonstrated many times in the Bible. God is worshipped and obeyed for many years, then His
people get comfortable and turn away from Him at the altar of their own interests, egos, power,
habits, and listening to false prophets and worshipping idols.

Look at the Old Testament. There was David, not perfect by any means but he never soft
pedaled his sins and always repented, loving and serving God. And then there’s Hezekiah. 2
Kings 18:5 tells us, “Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel. There was no one like him
among all the kings of Judah, whether before him or after him.” His trust in God was so strong
that he won a battle against his enemies without even sending a soldier to the fight, rather an
angel of God took care of it.

On the other hand, in 2 Kings you can find many examples of kings who did evil in the sight of
the Lord, with Menahem, Pekahiah, and Pekah right in a row, followed by Jotham, who sort of
did right by the Lord, but allowed idol worship to continue. This cycle happened over and over
again, with the ultimate consequence being that God finally threw up His hands and let the
people do what they wanted, which resulted in Him eventually allowing them to be put into exile
in Babylon.

In Jeremiah we are told that once there, during their seventy year exile, God wanted His people
to live good, useful, prosperous lives and stay in prayer to Him, and to not listen to false
prophets. My point here is that there are good and bad leaders, and here we are living during
those times, whatever your point of view and however things roll. Whatever the upcoming
election results, we need to do the same. No matter what life looks like, remain faithful to God
and live Godly lives. Love one another. I know it’s really hard to not get eaten up by worry,
anxiety, social media, friends, family, and to sometimes feel frustration and anger. But look at
the Bible. The world has been crazy many times, and God has always been right there, even
when things aren’t the way we think they should be. He’s here now, and He’s got this. Rest in
Him. Find peace in Him. Sleep well.
