BRAVER THAN LIONS

On the day of Pentecost, all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
Acts 2: 1-4
Several years ago, as I was sitting at my desk at home with a stressed fractured femur I was wondering
what I was going to do financially to provide for my family because I worked on my feet and I could not
work for at least twelve weeks for me to heal. At that moment I heard a nonaudible voice say, “Drew, if
you are willing to trust Me, I am going to use this time to change the direction of your life.”
In the interest of full disclosure, at that point of my life I knew the Lord but I was still a self-centered,
egotistical jerk who made decisions based solely on what I wanted to do which is bad enough on its own
but when you have a spouse and a young child at home it can and would have been devastating . I
thought this was the Holy Spirit talking and my confirmation of that fact arrived when my wife came
home, and I told her what I heard. Her only response was, “ok” and walked away. I had to follow her
because she had every reason not to trust me or my judgement at that point and I was not expecting her
accepting and direct answer. When I asked her where that response came from her words were, “I’ve
never heard anything like that come out of your mouth before, so I know it has to be from the Holy
Spirit.”
Fast forward to today, professionally I’ve had a dream to build a business serving people that took a turn
I was not anticipating several months ago. As I was educating myself on what I was needing to learn, the
Holy Spirit showed up again, this time saying, “Drew, now that you are healthy enough to understand I
can tell you this, what you thought was a dream has always been the calling I’ve had on your life.” This
was such a relief because the next thought that came to me is that the pressure is now off me because
God has never called the equipped, He always equips the called. I just need to be obedient, humble,
hungry and not quit because this is my calling.
Then I was asked if I would be willing to write devotionals for Braver Than Lions which is something I had
never considered and was mildly terrified to do. This put me in a great position to rest on the same
lesson, if it is something scary to me and I feel unqualified then I need to explore this because it is
another example of God equipping the called.
The Holy Spirit is always there for us, it is a promise from God, as I was reading a book this morning I
came across this, “Come close to God (with a contrite heart) and He will come close to you. James 4:8
AMP. Look who makes the first move. You. God waits on you. He is the perfect gentleman. God doesn’t
force himself on anyone.”1 I have been in the Word, praying and listening to God for years coming close
to Him and He has certainly come close to me.
