Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
Isaiah 58:11 The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched landand will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whosewaters never fail.
Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread

Have you thought about the Lord’s Prayer? Lately I’ve taken to repeating the Lord’s Prayer
slowly and thoughtfully. Sometimes it feels as if I’m rushing it and doing it by rote. I’ve been
concentrating on Matthew 6:11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread.’ It means a lot more than
providing food and water. Every day brings its blessings and challenges, and sometimes the
challenges are more than we can stand, snowballing faster than we can keep up. Health
issues, financial woes, relationship problems can come to a head and overwhelm us. Looking
into the future can become scary and really shake us, not knowing outcomes, or knowing them
and being unsure of how to deal with them. We can grind to a halt, unable to think and act.
It’s time to stop. Today is where you are at. Get on your knees and pour it all out to the Lord.
He knows you and how you are feeling. Ask him to guide you and show you who and/or what
will hold you up on this day. Be still and know that God is God. Let Him bless and love you
today. Does this mean that you don’t need to plan ahead or ignore the realities of life on this
fallen world? Of course not. It’s only common sense to do so and it is helpful not only to you,
but to those around you. Right now though, you are stuck. Turn to the Lord. Jesus has spent
time here on earth and knows more than anyone about how difficult and sometimes terrifying life
can be here. Walk with Him and let him help you carry your burden. And then do the same thing
tomorrow. And the next day, and the next. He will give you what you need today and every day.
Just ask Him. Let Him in. He loves you.
